Toronto police investigating shooting near U.S. Consulate; suspect at large

Toronto police are investigating after a gunshot was heard early Monday morning near the U.S. Consulate building in the city’s downtown core.
Officers were called around 4:45 a.m. to the Armoury Street and University Avenue area, a zone that includes the consulate and several government buildings.
Police say evidence of a firearm discharge was found outside the consulate. No injuries were reported.
Investigators say a white sedan was seen fleeing the area immediately after the shot was fired. There is no suspect description at this time, and no arrests have been made.
Police have not confirmed whether the consulate was the intended target. They say the shooting occurred outside, but it remains unclear whether the round was aimed at a building or a person.
Monday’s reported shooting comes amid a series of high‑profile investigations involving gunfire directed at or near the U.S. Consulate this year.
On March 10, two suspects fired multiple rounds at the consulate’s front entrance before fleeing in a stolen Honda CR‑V. That case triggered a major national‑security investigation involving Toronto police, the RCMP, and INSET. One suspect was later arrested, while another remained wanted until police announced additional arrests in June.
Police later charged a 19‑year‑old in connection with the March attack after locating him at Toronto Pearson Airport. The investigation has since expanded to include multiple suspects and alleged connections to a broader pattern of coordinated shootings across the GTA.
