Shelter-in-place order lifted for St. Albert neighbourhood, but suspect still on loose

A community in St. Albert was put under a shelter in place Sunday afternoon.

A shelter-in-place order was lifted for St. Albert’s Riverside neighbourhood late Sunday afternoon amid the search for a suspect connected to an armed robbery.

St. Albert RCMP lifted the order shortly before 5 p.m., though the suspect was still on the loose. Police said they no longer believed he was in that area.

When Mounties first issued the order, they urged residents to remain inside their homes and avoid opening the door for anyone while officers conducted the search.

In a statement to CityNews, the Edmonton Police Service confirmed that police responded to reports of a carjacking around 1:45 p.m. near 151 Street and 111 Avenue.

Few details about the suspect or the robbery have been revealed, however, EPS confirmed that no injuries were reported and that an investigation is ongoing with the RCMP.
