A memorial is growing for the 9-year-old girl who was struck and killed west of Edmonton Tuesday morning.
Family, friends, neighbours, and passers-by were seen laying teddy bears, flowers, and balloons at the Hartwick Manor cul-de-sac.
The nine-year-old girl was sitting on a skateboard, rolling off the driveway into the street, when she was hit by a Dodge Ram pickup truck. She was rushed to the hospital with critical injuries, where she later died.
Jeff Acker, the mayor of Spruce Grove, in a social media statement, sent his condolences on behalf of the community. “There are no words that can ease the pain of such a tragedy, but please know that our thoughts are with everyone impacted. The loss of a child is something no family should have to endure, and it touches all of us.
“In the days ahead, I encourage everyone in our community to support one another with kindness and compassion. And most importantly, I ask that we all respect the family’s privacy as they grieve.”
Parkland RCMP confirmed the investigation into the tragedy will continue.
