Police allege scammers stole $30K from Edmonton senior’s credit card

Edmonton police allege two men defrauded a senior of more than $30,000 earlier this year.

On Jan. 30, police say the alleged scammers, posing as bank employees, contacted an 85-year-old man and told him his credit cards were being used outside the city.

They allegedly instructed him to cut up his credit and debit cards, place them in an envelope, and wait for a bank courier to collect them.

Surveillance footage later captured two men using the victim’s credit cards, accumulating over $30,000 in charges shortly after the pickup.

The investigation is ongoing.
