Extreme cold snap officially over

Edmonton’s cold snap is officially over according to Environment Canada.

Environment Canada lifted the extreme weather warning Friday afternoon for Edmonton and all surrounding communities, as our overnight lows are expected to be a balmy -18C.

Temperatures are also expected to be above seasonal by mid-week.

Last weekend’s polar vortex saw three days of record-breaking cold, with temperatures reaching -45 C at the airport.

According to Environment Canada, the extreme cold warning has been lifted in the following regions:

  • Parkland Co. near Spruce Grove and Stony Plain;
  • Sturgeon Co. near Rivière Qui Barre and Villeneuve;
  • Sturgeon Co. near Morinville Volmer and Big Lake;
  • Sturgeon Co. near Bon Accord Gibbons and Namao;
  • Fort Saskatchewan and Nrn Strathcona Co.;
  • City of Edmonton – St. Albert – Sherwood Park;
  • Leduc Co. near Calmar and Devon;
  • Leduc Co. near Leduc Beaumont and Kavanagh;
  • Leduc Co. near New Sarepta and Rolly View;
  • Strathcona Co. near Ardrossan and Cooking Lake;
