Edmonton police allege loaded gun, drugs seized from ‘repeat offender’ with long criminal record

By News Staff

A repeat offender with a “significant” criminal history involving violence and guns was recently arrested and is facing more than a dozen new charges, Edmonton police say.

The Edmonton Police Service says Jeffery Saulteaux, 28, is facing 17 charges – related to drug trafficking, weapons, resisting arrest and obstructing a peace officer – in connection with an incident Sunday evening.

Police say officers were conducting proactive patrols near 118 Avenue and 104 Street around 6 p.m. when they observed the accused, who was wanted on 12 outstanding firearm-related warrants.

EPS allege the suspect dropped a backpack and fled on foot when officers approached.

“After a short foot pursuit, Saulteaux was observed discarding a loaded handgun, before being arrested and taken into custody,” police said in a news release.

Police say they found on his possession 58.9 grams of fentanyl, 19.5 grams of cocaine and 13.8 grams of methamphetamine – an approximate street value of $12,300. They also allegedly recovered a semi-automatic rifle with two magazines loaded and 32 bullets inside the discarded backpack.

Edmonton police say Saulteaux’s criminal record dates back to 2017.
