2 men charged in 2022 hit-and-run of Edmonton police officer

Edmonton police say two men related to each other are facing charges in connection to a 2022 hit-and-run that injured an officer.

In September, an EPS officer was attempting to conduct a traffic stop near Terwillegar Drive northbound and 37 Avenue when they were hit by a man on a motorcycle.

At the time, the officer that was struck reportedly tried to signal the motorcycle to pull over when they were hit.

EPS says following an extensive investigation and assistance from several witnesses, investigators identified the rider as 20-year-old Dominic Di Cesare.

Di Cesare was charged on Friday with dangerous operation causing bodily harm, failing to stop after an accident resulting in bodily harm, flight from a peace officer, and obstructing a peace officer.

In addition, police charged 58-year-old Alejandro Di Cesare with failing to stop after an accident resulting in bodily harm, and for obstructing justice in his alleged involvement in the investigation.

Police say both men have since been released from custody on an Appearance Notice. They are both expected to be in court on August 17.

“Failing to remain at the scene of a collision, in particular when someone is injured, is a serious offence, and we are pleased we were able to lay charges in this hit-and-run,” says Sergeant Travis Cruise with the EPS Major Collision Investigations Section. “The EPS would like to once again thank the media and the public for helping us conclude this investigation.”

EPS says the injured officer is continuing to recover following the incident.
