Some Edmonton companies are making the jump to Meta’s new social media platform Threads. But others are saying it’s still too early to make the move as questions around the platform aimed at rivaling Twitter remain.
“It is meant to be the Twitter killer. I would give it more time before deleting your Twitter,” said Beverley Theresa, social media strategist and owner of Throwdown Social Media.
“Threads” launched Wednesday. Owned by Meta, the parent company of Instagram and Facebook.
While some are early adopters, Edmonton police sending out a reminder not to drink and drive. It can be overwhelming for small business to think about needing to manage yet another social media site.

“If you sign up for threads, you can’t delete it without deleting your Instagram. Which is unfortunate, because some people still want to try it out,” said Theresa.
Theresa adds it’s still too soon to know what will come of threads. as Meta admitted they are still developing it.
The social media strategist recommends clients master one or two platforms before adding another.
“Remember when TikTok and Snapchat were announced, and brands were like I want to be on there. But remember who your audience is, are they actually on threads, and if they are on threads now, are they actually going to be active?”
Saying while Twitter has gone through several controversial changes since billionaire Elon Musk took over, it still has a large user base, and it’s unclear how this new competitor plays into that.
