A 20-year-old man who allegedly stabbed two people near an Edmonton Oilers watch party downtown last weekend, before being shot by police, has been charged.
Police responded to a weapons complaint near Rogers Place on Saturday where it was reported that multiple people had been stabbed.
A man brandishing a knife was reportedly shot by police. He sustained serious injuries and was taken to hospital.
Two people – a man and a woman – were also taken to hospital with critical and serious injuries. They remain stable.
A video circulating on social media shows a person wearing an Oilers jersey wielding a knife before getting shot by police. The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) is investigating.
The suspect was charged Wednesday with aggravated assault and possession of a weapon dangerous to the public.
CityNews reached out to the Edmonton Police Service for information on the suspect’s condition.
That incident, and other less violent ones, prompted the City of Edmonton and the Oilers Entertainment Group to make watch parties at the Ice District for adults only.
