Five men charged in Edmonton vehicle thefts and exportation

Edmonton police have charged five men in connection to vehicle thefts and exportations.

In November, the Targeted Response to Auto-theft Prevention Team (TRAP) began an investigation after 14 vehicles were stolen across the city.

Police say the vehicles that were being targeted were Dodge Ram TRX pick-up trucks, Jeeps, and Durangos.

During the investigation, two of the stolen vehicles were found in a shipping container at a shipping yard near 224 Street and 112 Avenue.

EPS says four additional vehicles were also recovered in shipping containers at the Port of Montreal.

While the investigation continued, the TRAP team was able to find four more stolen vehicles from a second shipping year near 107 Avenue and 221 Street, on Feb. 4.

“This was a well-organized group of individuals, who were specifically targeting high-end Dodge models for overseas export. The high-value loss not only affects the individual vehicle owners but is absorbed by insurance holders as well,” said Sgt. Ian Strom of the EPS TRAP team.

Two men from Edmonton, one from Montreal, one from Saint-Mathias-sur-Richelieu, QC, and another from Longueuil, QC, have all since been charged with multiple vehicle-related theft charges.
