The hamlet of Marlboro was evacuated as crews dealt with the blaze which is now deemed as ‘being held’
The news is welcome to the over 100 people who were forced to evacuate on Sunday.
One evacuee said it was stressful to leave the area at a moment’s notice.
“I grabbed my purse and my two dogs and away we went. If it’s going to go, it’s going to go,” said Rosanna Ploentzke. “I was kind of freaking.”
“There was a little bit of panic, especially for some of the first evacuees that were close to [the fire],” said Corinne Grant, Yellowhead County Fire Captain. “[The fire] jumped roads, it jumped creeks, it jumped the tracks and Highway 16… If you get caught in front of that you could be in some serious trouble.”
Ploentzke says she’s thankful her home and business were left untouched as the fire raged on nearby. “Everybody was saved and nothing was lost–someone had to be watching and made that wind go where it was supposed to.”
