A youth was taken into custody after a high school in Lloydminster, east of Edmonton, was placed on lockdown due to a gun threat on Wednesday.
Lloydminster RCMP say officers were notified of the possible threat at Lloydminster Comprehensive High School at 11:07 a.m.
Police say the school was placed in lockdown as a precaution while officers secured the area.
A suspect was located and taken into custody at 11:16 a.m.
The school was later placed in a hold-and-secure, the high school said in a Facebook post, “while RCMP completed their work on site.”
Officers determined there was no weapon.
Authorities say they take all threats seriously. An investigation is ongoing.
“Lloydminster RCMP recognize that reports of firearms or violence in a school can be traumatic for students, staff, parents, and the broader community,” said Sgt. Christopher Byford.
“We would like to acknowledge the professionalism and preparedness demonstrated by the staff at Lloydminster Comprehensive High School. The school’s training and emergency response procedures were implemented quickly and effectively, contributing to the safe resolution of this incident.”
