Styrofoam, takeout food containers among new recyclable items in Edmonton

Items that were previously destined for a landfill can soon be recycled in Edmonton.
The City of Edmonton says beginning Oct. 1, new materials will be accepted through blue bag and bin collection, and at recycling depots in the city.
The new materials include:
- Takeout food containers
- To-go cups, such as coffee cups
- Foam packaging, such as meat trays and Styrofoam
- All plastic packaging, such as coffee bags, chip bags, bubble wrap, snack wrappers, cereal liner bags and plastic gift bags
The city says people can download the WasteWise app to learn if an item is recycling or garbage.
Officials are also urging Edmontonians to reduce waste, such as opting for reusable cups for to-go drinks and choosing products with less packaging.
