The Nest — the campus bar at the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT) — has been temporarily closed following a heat- and carbon monoxide-related matter on Thursday.
Officials say two members of the Nest were taken to hospital for precautionary reasons.
An investigation is underway with the school regarding the kitchen, which had work done over the summer to address longstanding ventilation and temperature concerns, as well as determining the source of the carbon monoxide that was detected.
“During our first three days of operation this semester, however, we have continued to experience excessive temperatures in the kitchen. Today’s incident has made it clear that further investigation is required,” said the Nest in a statement.
“The immediate incident has been addressed, and there is no ongoing emergency. However, The Nest will remain closed until we are satisfied that we can provide a safe and comfortable environment for our staff and customers.”
