Man who reportedly claimed to care for young kids charged with sexual assault of minor

Edmonton police say a 50-year-old man has been charged in connection with the sexual assault of a young child.

The Edmonton Police Service says Simon Nicholas, who also goes by Ambrose Nicholas, was charged on July 29 with sexual assault, sexual interference, and two counts of breaching a court order.

Police say officers also executed warrants from Athabasca RCMP for the sexual assault of another young child.

At the time of the Edmonton reports, police say the accused was subject to court-ordered conditions prohibiting contact with children under 16 and restricting access to locations frequented by children.

“In both investigations, it is reported that Nicholas presented himself to a parent as someone who could be trusted to care for young children,” Edmonton police said in a news release.

Because of the similarities in the reported incidents, investigators believe there could be more alleged victims.

The allegations against Nicholas have not been tested in court.
