Two men, one from Edmonton and the other from the Calgary area, are facing first-degree murder charges in connection with the fatal poisoning of an 18-year-old in southern Alberta in 2020.
They are the latest suspects charged in the death of Sahil Grewal, who died in hospital April 6, 2020, three days after consuming a mixture of cough syrup and fentanyl.
A now 24-year-old man, Mohit Sandhu, was charged with first-degree murder and attempted murder on July 7, 2025. Police say the attempted murder charge is because the substance was also allegedly intended for a second person, who did not receive or consume it.
Now authorities say two more suspects were “both parties to the offence.”
Edmonton’s Harmanjot Chumber, 24, and Rockyview County’s Dalvir Sidhu, 33, were charged on July 16 with first-degree murder and attempted murder. Both are scheduled to appear in court next month.
The allegations against them have not been tested in court.
