Senior dies of injuries in hospital after north Edmonton collision

Police say an 81-year-old man died in hospital on Saturday, 10 days after a collision involving two vehicles in north Edmonton.

The Edmonton Police Service says shortly before 6 p.m. on June 24, officers were called to the Rosslyn area after an SUV collided with a car at 97 Street and 132 Avenue.

Authorities say the SUV was travelling north on 97 Street and attempted to turn left onto 132 Avenue when it collided with the car travelling south on 97 Street. Impairment is not believed to be a factor in the collision.

The SUV was being driven by the 81-year-old man, who was taken to hospital with serious injuries. He remained there until his death over the weekend.

The 22-year-old man driving the car and his 21-year-old female passenger were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries and have since been released.

The EPS’ major collision investigations section, which is investigating, is looking for witnesses or dashcam footage from the area at the time.
