Stranded man, children rescued on lake northwest of Edmonton

A man and two children stranded on a lake northwest of Edmonton were rescued by police on Wednesday evening.

Parkland RCMP say they were called to Devil’s Lake, just east of Onoway, after the inflatable sport boat’s motor failed, leaving the boaters stranded in weeds.

Authorities say the man was prepared and made extensive efforts to restart the motor, but contacted police for assistance once those efforts failed.

“Thanks to the detailed information provided by the caller, first responders were able to quickly deploy the detachment boat, locate the adult male and two children, and safely rescue them without incident,” Mounties said in a news release.

RCMP remind boaters to bring a charge cell phone and warn someone when going out on the water.
