After over 46,000 fans braved the wet weather to watch Canada defeat Uzbekistan 2-0 on Monday at Commonwealth Stadium, OEG Sports & Entertainment, the City of Edmonton, and Explore Edmonton have announced that a World Cup watch party will be taking place in the ICE District.
Dubbed “Edmonton’s Summer of Soccer”, 97 World Cup games will be free to watch at the ICE District, including all of Team Canada’s games between June 11 and July 19.
The watch parties will also feature food trucks, beverages, DJ entertainment, face painting and more.
“Edmonton is a soccer city. With more than 25,000 young people playing the game here, this sport runs deep in our community,” said Mayor Andrew Knack.
“We saw that passion on full display when more than 46,000 fans packed Commonwealth Stadium in the pouring rain to cheer on Team Canada, and we’re bringing that same incredible energy to the ICE District Fan Park downtown this summer. I encourage every Edmontonian and every visitor to come down here, bring the whole family, and be part of the excitement of the World Cup. These viewing parties are free, fun, and made for families — and it’s just the beginning of an unforgettable summer of soccer in Canada’s number one sports hosting city!”
The watch party will even take place on Canada Day, where attendees can watch three games, while participating in soccer-themed activities, cultural programming, music, and food.
