Police in Alberta arrest 88 top offenders during 5-day joint-forces operation

A major crime sweep in the Edmonton area. Police sharing more on the latest round of arrests targeting some of Alberta’s most prolific offenders.

A man wanted for kidnapping and extortion and another with prior convictions who evaded police capture for two years were among 88 suspects described as “priority offenders” who were arrested in a joint-forces operation in Alberta last month.

Authorities say the alleged offenders were arrested from April 20-24 by the Alberta RCMP, Edmonton Police Service, Alberta Sheriffs and more.

The offences range from possession of stolen property to aggravated assault and extortion with a firearm.

Law enforcement officials say a small number of prolific offenders tend to drive “significant harm” in Alberta’s communities.

“By working with our policing partners to identify and prioritize these individuals, we can take coordinated, province-wide action to hold them accountable and work towards our shared goal of a stronger, safer Alberta,” said Alberta RCMP Supt. Mike McCauley.
