3 facing charges after allegedly kidnapping and extorting 2 people: RCMP

Alberta RCMP say three people are facing charges after two people were allegedly kidnapped, extorted, robbed, and assaulted.

Mounties say they received a report on Apr. 14, that two people were kidnapped and extorted the night before.

Reports indicate that the pair were allegedly restrained and held against their will at a home on Paul First Nation, where they were beaten, threatened, and robbed by three people. It is also believed that two of those three had firearms, which were discharged during the incident.

Over the course of an investigation, Mounties were able to execute a search warrant at the home in question and were able to find and seize several pieces of evidence.

Mounties also issued arrest warrants for a 20-year-old, a 27-year-old man, and a 33-year-old man, who were all believed to be armed and dangerous.

The woman was taken into custody on Apr. 19 in Edmonton by EPS. The 33-year-old man was taken into custody by RCMP just south of Edmonton, and the 27-year-old man was taken into custody in Spruce Grove after Mounties received a complaint saying a man was refusing to pay for his meal and drinks.

The investigation is ongoing, but the RCMP does say the three are facing several serious charges, including kidnapping, extortion, robbery with a firearm, assault causing bodily harm, and other weapons offences.

“These violent occurrences often require a coordinated response”, said Sgt. Collin Kuca, Commander of Parkland RCMP Plain Clothes Unit.  “I am pleased to say that multiple units of the RCMP and the Edmonton Police Service worked seamlessly to apprehend these suspects who posed a serious risk to public safety.”
