Alberta retail crime blitz: 65 arrests made, $27K in clothing seized from St. Albert home

Alberta RCMP say 65 people were arrested and more than $40,000 in retail goods were recovered as apart of a retail crime blitz across several municipalities.

Mounties say the arrests were made between March 10-20 in Airdrie, Lloydminster, Parkland, Red Deer, St. Albert, Strathcona County, Wetaskiwin and Wood Buffalo, resulting in 48 criminal charges.

Police say of the 65 suspects arrested, 10 were wanted on warrants and 21 had over 30 previous charges.

“More frequently we are finding violent recidivist criminals engaging in retail crime, elevating the risk for employees and shoppers alike,” said Staff Sgt. Luke Halvorson with the Alberta RCMP community safety and well-being branch.

Authorities add information from the blitz led to the arrest of a 33-year-old man at a home in St. Albert, where $26,498 in clothing was recovered. Charges against him are pending.
