Beaver suspected of attempted wood theft from Alberta business

An unexpected customer made their way into a grocery store northeast of Calgary last week.

RCMP in the central Alberta town of Hanna have generated some buzz after officers removed an unusual trespasser from a local business earlier this month.

Police were called to the business on April 8 for reports a trespasser was refusing to leave during closing time.

The subject was disoriented, wearing all brown, and clocked in at two feet tall and 40 pounds — it was a beaver!

An officer responded and used de-escalation tactics.

Investigators believe the beaver may have been trying to steal the business’s firewood in the entrance way to use for home building, but a motive hasn’t been confirmed at this time.

RCMP say after much coaxing and no use of force, the subject was ushered out of the business.

No arrest was required, and the subject’s identity hasn’t been confirmed.

Photos of the subject have been released by police, in case he emerges elsewhere in Hanna.

“He is not considered armed and dangerous, although his tail was pretty big,” RCMP add.
