Edmonton braces for midweek snow before spring rebound

A fluctuating late-March weather pattern is set to keep residents on their toes this week, as mild conditions give way to a burst of snow and cold before a gradual return to spring-like temperatures.

Monday brings a mix of sun and cloud across the city, with a 30 per cent chance of late-day flurries or rain showers. Southerly winds will strengthen through the day, gusting up to 40 km/h and pushing temperatures to a high near 4 Celsius . However, the morning will feel considerably colder, with wind chills around minus-6 C.

Clouds thicken tonight, with a continued chance of scattered precipitation early in the evening. Winds will shift sharply from south to north before easing, as temperatures fall to minus-7 C and wind chills dip near minus-14 C overnight.

A more significant shift arrives Tuesday, when snow is expected to begin around midday and persist into the night. Daytime highs will struggle to reach minus-5 C, with brisk conditions making it feel closer to minus-14 C in the morning. Snowfall continues overnight with a low of minus-10 C.

Midweek conditions remain firmly wintry, as periods of snow linger through Wednesday with a high near minus-7 C. Colder air settles in overnight, dropping temperatures to minus-14 C.

Relief arrives later in the week. Thursday will see a mix of sun and cloud and a high of minus-3 C, marking the start of a warming trend. By Friday, sunshine returns with temperatures climbing to 5 C.

The weekend is expected to bring more seasonable conditions, with a mix of sun and cloud and highs reaching 7 C Saturday and 8 C Sunday, a welcome sign that spring is beginning to take hold.
