1 hospitalized in southeast Edmonton house fire

It was a busy night for the Edmonton firefighters, dealing with two separate house fires in the Mill Woods neighbourhood. Leo Cruzat has reactions from neighbours.

One person was taken to hospital after a fire at a multi-suite residential building in southeast Edmonton on Monday evening.

Edmonton Fire Rescue Services says firefighters were on the scene at Lakewood Road North and 75 Street – in Mill Woods – at 7:18 p.m.

Six crews were sent to battle the blaze.

“Neighbouring suites were evacuated as a precaution,” an EFRS spokesperson told CityNews.

The fire was declared under control at 8:13 p.m. and officially out at 10:59 p.m.

EFRS says the city’s Emergency Support Response Team (ESRT) was on scene to assist anyone in need.

Earlier blaze just blocks away

Just a few hours earlier, at 5:38 p.m., firefighters were called to a house fire on Lee Ridge Road – just a few blocks away from the Lakewood Road blaze.

The first fire truck arrived on scene at 5:42 p.m. and six crews fought the flames, according to EFRS.

The fire was declared under control at 6:22 p.m. and out at 8:58 p.m.
