Calgarian fatally struck by SUV while changing tire on Anthony Henday Drive: police

A Calgary man was struck and killed by a driver on Edmonton's Anthony Henday Drive while helping another driver change a tire. Lauren Boothby reports.

One person was killed and another sustained serious life-threatening injuries in a collision on Edmonton’s ring road on Sunday afternoon.

Mounties say a 53-year-old from Calgary was killed and a 21-year-old from Calgary was seriously inured when they were struck by an SUV.

Authorities say the victims were stopped on the shoulder of the road and out of their respective vehicles while attempting to change a tire.

The driver of the SUV who allegedly struck the pair — also identified as a 21-year-old — was hospitalized with minor injuries.

Police say it happened on the northbound Anthony Henday Drive near Wye Road shortly before 5 p.m.

RCMP are continuing to investigate.
