‘He will be deeply missed’: Edmonton man killed in Anthony Henday crash remembered as kind, genuine person

27-year-old, Ahmed Ali died in a crash in Anthony Henday while on his way to work as an Edmonton Airport Screening Officer.

The 27-year-old man who was killed in a collision on Edmonton’s ring road on Monday is being remembered as a kind and caring person.

Ahmed Ali, who worked as a screening officer at the Edmonton International Airport, was identified in an online fundraiser set up by his union.

They say Ali was a “valued and respected member of our team.”

“He was known for his kindness, professionalism, and genuine care for others. His presence made a difference, and he will be deeply missed,” the fundraiser reads.

The fatal collision on Anthony Henday Drive, near 111 Street in south Edmonton, happened around 8:30 a.m.

Ali was reportedly on his way to work when his Volkswagen Passat broke down. Edmonton police say it was struck from behind at highway speed by a Dodge Ram pickup truck being driven by a 23-year-old man.

Ali was declared dead at the at the scene. The driver of the pickup was taken to hospital for precautionary reasons.

The Canadian Airport Workers Union (CAWU) says a fundraiser was created to support the Ali’s family. It raised nearly $40,000 – meeting its goal – in two days.

“Any contribution will help ease the financial burden they are facing and show them how deeply Ahmed was cared for,” the union wrote.

“As a Union, we stand together in grief and in support. CAWU extends our deepest condolences to Ahmed’s family, friends, and coworkers. We honour his service, his presence, and the impact he had on our workplace. In this time of loss, we remain committed to supporting one another and upholding the care and solidarity that define our Union.

“Ahmed Ali will be remembered for his compassion, his collegial spirit, and the respect he showed to everyone he worked with. He will not be forgotten.”
