Edmonton’s Phase 2 residential parking ban will officially end Friday, Jan. 23, at 7 p.m., allowing residents to park on residential streets once again.
The ban had been in effect since Jan. 12 as City crews worked through extreme winter conditions to clear roughly 3,800 kilometres of residential roads. According to the City, the work was completed within established service levels for residential roadways.
While residential clearing is finished, snow operations across Edmonton are far from over. Crews continue working around the clock on other priorities, including improving traction, addressing uneven road conditions, clearing alleyways, and maintaining windrow-free areas in school zones.
A separate snow-clearing operation in cul-de-sacs began Jan. 22 and is expected to take up to six weeks. The process includes stacking snow first, followed by removal and hauling. Temporary “No Parking” signs will be posted at least 24 hours in advance, and ticketing may occur if vehicles remain once restrictions are in effect.
Snow removal in school zones is also underway. Crews began clearing windrows in 317 school zones on Jan. 16, with work expected to wrap up by Feb. 2. Most of this work is happening overnight and on weekends to reduce disruptions.
The City is reminding residents that sidewalk clearing remains the responsibility of property owners and that standard residential windrows are not removed unless they meet specific criteria. Residents can report winter road concerns through 311 now that the parking ban has ended.
