2 killed, 1 in hospital after semi collides with pickup northeast of Edmonton

Alberta RCMP say two people are dead and one is in hospital after a semi-truck collided with a pickup truck over the weekend.

Mounties responded to the intersection of Highway 38, Township Road 570, and Highway 643 around 4:48 p.m. on Dec. 13, after receiving a report of a collision.

Through the initial stages of an investigation, police believe that the 22-year-old driver of the semi had failed to stop at a posted stop sign while driving west on Highway 38.

Due to this, the semi collided with a pickup truck that was travelling south on Highway 38, where the highway changes to Highway 643.

The 41-year-old driver and a 34-year-old passenger, who was in the front of the pickup, were both declared dead at the scene. A 43-year-old woman who was in the back seat of the pickup suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital, where she is receiving medical treatment.

RCMP say the investigation into the collision is still ongoing. At this time, no charges have been laid.
