A teacher at a northwest Edmonton school has been charged with multiple sexual offences involving his student for an alleged online sexually explicit “relationship” that lasted two years.
Alberta Law Enforcement Response Team (ALERT) says the charges against the 32-year-old teacher at Hilwie Hamdon School are entirely related to alleged online offences.
The teacher was arrested Friday by ALERT’s Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) unit and the Edmonton Police Service. The ICE investigation began earlier that week.
Authorities do not know if other students were impacted.
Hilwie Hamdon, a K-9 school that serves the Hudson and Cumberland communities, is part of the Edmonton Public School Board (EPSB) division.
An EPSB spokesperson tells CityNews the accused is “not working in any division schools or buildings.”
The EPSB did not answer CityNews’ question about how long the teacher was employed at the school. “At this time, we do not have additional details to share.”
The school division says it activated the division’s critical incident support services (CISS) team, a group of social workers and psychologists who support schools after incidents.
“The safety and well-being of students is at the core of our commitment as a school division; it’s a responsibility we take extremely seriously,” the spokesperson said.

Dylan Rosychuk was charged with child luring, making sexually explicit materials available to a child, and making, possessing, and transmitting child sexual abuse materials.
He was released from custody on several court-imposed conditions and is scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 19. The allegations have not been tested in court.
