Truck turns against traffic light, crashes into LRT in downtown Edmonton: police

Valley Line LRT service had minor delays on Wednesday after a truck made contact with a southbound Valley Line train near the Churchill stop.

The incident happened before 11:30 a.m. in front of City Centre Mall in downtown Edmonton — in the area of 102 Avenue and 100 Street.

According to Edmonton police, the Valley Line was travelling east on 102 Avenue on a green light, when a truck that was also travelling east turned northbound against a traffic sign and collided with the train.

“While trains are able to navigate around the collision site, there are minor delays to Valley Line service,” Ryan Birch, director of bus and security operations for the Edmonton Transit Service, told CityNews in a statement.

“The City and TransEd are working together, along with the Edmonton Police Service, as they investigate the incident.”

No injuries were reported, police said.
