Police have laid a second-degree murder charge in connection with the fatal shooting of a 42-year-old man in central Edmonton last month.

The Edmonton Police Service says Andrew Donald McCabe, 42, died outside a home near 107 Avenue and 109 Street on the night of Oct. 8.

An autopsy confirmed McCabe’s death was a homicide.

On Oct. 18, police charged 20-year-old Gulied Ahmed Umar with second-degree murder.

Investigators say the victim and accused did not know each other.

Edmonton police told CityNews in a statement Thursday it took nearly a month to announce the charge due to “procedural and shift delays.”
