Woman, 31, hospitalized with life-threatening injuries in 3-vehicle collision in north Edmonton

A woman is in hospital with life-threatening injuries after a collision at 167 Avenue and 97 Street in north Edmonton Saturday. Police are asking witnesses, and anyone with dashcam footage, to come forward. Lauren Boothby reports.

Police say three people were hospitalized, including a 31-year-old woman with life-threatening injuries, in a collision involving three vehicles in north Edmonton on Sunday afternoon.

The Edmonton Police Service says it happened near 97 Street and 167 Avenue around 2:34 p.m.

The 31-year-old woman, driving a Mazda 3, was reportedly turning left onto 167 Avenue when the light turned red.

As she was clearing the intersection, police say she was struck by a southbound Toyota Camry operated by a 27-year-old man.

“The Mazda struck a power box and a Hyundai Elantra before coming to rest in the southwest corner of the intersection,” Edmonton police said in a news release.

The 31-year-old woman was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries; the 27-year-old driver of the Toyota was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries; and the driver of the Hyundai was taken to hospital for precautionary reasons.

The EPS major collisions investigation section is investigating and believes speed is a factor.

Police are asking witnesses or anyone with dash camera footage to call 780-423-4567 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
