An assault charge has been upgraded to manslaughter after an autopsy determined a 55-year-old man was the victim of homicide.
The Edmonton Police Service says an autopsy conducted Oct. 28 determined Arvi Singh Sagoo died of blunt head trauma and the manner of death was homicide.
BACKGROUND: Suspect charged after 55-year-old man’s death in central Edmonton
Sagoo died Oct. 24 in hospital after being taken there with life-threatening injuries five days earlier.
Edmonton police were called to an assault at 109 Street and 100 Avenue on Oct. 19 around 2:20 a.m. Officers arrived to find Sagoo unconscious.
Kyle Papin, 40, was arrested and initially charged with aggravated assault. Police had warned additional charges were pending.
Authorities say the victim and accused did not know one another, and investigators are not looking for any additional suspects.
A GoFundMe fundraiser identified Sagoo as a “kind and loving father” of two children.
