More than two-thirds of Edmonton voters say their sitting councillors don’t deserve to be re-elected: CityNews poll

Edmonton city council could look a lot different after Monday’s election, as more than two-thirds of the voters say it’s time for a new face to represent their ward, according to a CityNews-Canada Pulse Insights poll.

Voters were split on their councillor’s performance, with 51 per cent stating their local ward councillor was doing a “bad job” for the city.

Nearly three-in-four Edmontonians said the city was going in the wrong direction, the poll found.

Those numbers could mean bad news for nine of the 12 sitting councillors seeking re-election.

Two of the sitting councillors – Andrew Knack of Nakota Isga and Tim Cartmell of pihêsiwin – are seeking a promotion to be the next mayor of Edmonton. Meanwhile, councillor Sarah Hamilton of sipiwiyiniwak is not seeking re-election.

Overall, 81 candidates are in the running for 12 seats on the council.
