Police arrest 3 suspects after random stabbing at West Edmonton Mall transit station

Edmonton police say three people have been arrested in connection with what they’re calling an unprovoked, violent robbery that left two men hospitalized last week.

Police say all three accused – aged 28 to 31 – were known to police. They were arrested along the Stony Plain Road corridor on Thursday – one day after police responded to a robbery and stabbing at the West Edmonton Mall transit station on 90 Avenue and 175 Street.

Authorities say the Wednesday morning attack, around 5:30 a.m., happened when the accused approached two men waiting at the station and demanded their cell phones.

“When the two men refused, one of the suspects stabbed both men and robbed them of their cell phones before all three suspects, two males and one female, fled the scene on bicycles in an unknown direction,” the EPS alleges in a news release.

The victims, aged 24 and 45, were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and have since been released.

Edmonton police say all three suspects “were identified within hours and in custody within 24 hours.”

Kalend Edwards, 31, Tristan Niastus, 28, and Jessalyn Edwards, 28, were charged with robbery and aggravated assault. The allegations have not been tested in court.
