Edmonton bike park is near completion, plans to open in summer 2026

Construction of the Edmonton Bike Park near the River Valley is underway, with plans to open to the public in 2026. The new park will be a central hub for the growing biking community. Our Leo Cruzat explains.

Besides Edmonton’s river valley, at Queen Elizabeth Park sits a new mountain bike park that is beginning to take shape.

“For the entire project, maybe 40 per cent … 30-40 per cent complete. This component is 100 per cent complete,” said Jesse Soneff, the construction lead and a volunteer.

The community-led project will feature four lines or courses: the dirt jump line, which is nearly complete, the asphalt pump track, and the flow and skill trail line. All thanks to more than 100 volunteers who spent hours to help make their vision a reality.

“super exciting! It feels great! I can’t wait to see the community coming down here and using it. We’ve already seen the community come out and force to help build it, and had hundreds of volunteers, thousands of volunteer hours,” said Soneff.

The park was planned when the City did a public consultation for the Queen Elizabeth Park master plan back in 2013. Forward to 2025, the City gave the green light for a development permit just this summer, with funding from donations and government grants that total $1.2 million.

“Once all the approvals came, everybody kind of just went right to work, including some of our contractors, just putting in work every day,” said Dawson Wildemann, with the Edmonton Mountain Bike Alliance.

“Every time I’m out here, there are people riding by, stopping, taking a look, asking questions, and we’re really happy to show them around. They can kind of walk through most days.”

“I’m really excited about the beginner jump lines and the blue jump line, so I’m excited with that. I’m especially excited about the beginner jump lines cause I also have kids that are learning to ride,” said Soneff.

The Edmonton Mountain Bike Alliance says they are hoping to have a soft opening in each course this year and plans to have its grand opening in summer 2026.
