Edmonton police say one man has been charged and another is wanted in connection with a sexual assault in 2013.
EPS says a woman reported that she had been sexually assaulted by two men in a parked vehicle in the Clareview area, on Jan. 1, 2013.
At the time, police were able to collect DNA evidence from the assault, but were unable to identify any suspects.
As the investigation continued, one of the DNA samples was flagged in April 2025, leading to the identification of one of the suspects.
A second sample was retested with current DNA technology, which led to the identification of the second suspect.
Police say on Sept. 4, a man turned himself in, in connection to the incident, and was charged with sexual assault. At the time of the incident, he was a youth, so police were unable to release his name under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
Additionally, a warrant has been issued for 31-year-old Azad Younis. He is wanted for sexual assault and uttering threats.
Anyone who has any information on the whereabouts of Younis is asked to contact EPS at 780-423-4567 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
