140 candidates have entered the race for mayoral, city council, school board trustee positions in Edmonton election

As the deadline for election nominations closed on Monday, a total of 140 individuals have thrown their hats in the ring to run for mayor, city council, and school board trustee positions across Edmonton.

The list of official candidates includes 13 candidates for Mayor and 81 candidates in 12 Council wards.

A total of 46 candidates are running for school board trustee, including 32 for the Edmonton Public School Board and 14 for the Edmonton Catholic School Board.

Officials say the finalization of nominations marks the shift to the election period, when eligible Edmontonians will be able to vote for their preferred candidates.

Locals can vote by special ballot, advance vote (Oct. 7 to 11), or at 222 voting stations open on Election Day (Oct. 20).

The city said voter information cards will be sent to all registered electors and residential addresses in the coming weeks
