Edmonton police say a 32-year-old former Uber driver has been charged with sexual assault.
Around 1:56 a.m. on June 30, police received a report that a woman was picked up by an Uber that was a dark grey 2023 Nissan Rogue, near 109 Street and 101 Avenue.
The report indicated that during the trip, the driver allegedly parked his car and sexually assaulted the woman.
“Following a thorough investigation, we were able to successfully arrest and charge this suspect,” says Cst. Mughees Jutt with the EPS’ Southwest Branch.
On Aug. 30, 32-year-old Gurvinder Pannu was taken into custody and has since been charged with sexual assault.
He has since been released with conditions that include not being employed by a ride-sharing or taxi service, not having contact with the woman, and not possessing weapons.
“We unfortunately believe that there are others who have been impacted by this individual and we would like them to come forward so we can investigate and provide them with appropriate supports,” said Cst. Jutt.
Anyone who believes they may have been victimized by Pannu is asked to contact the Edmonton Police Service at 780-423-4567 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
