2 people facing 30 charges as Edmonton police seize over $35k in drugs from vehicle

Police say two people have been charged, and over $35,000 in drugs was seized in central Edmonton.

EPS says around 12:18 a.m. on Aug. 27, officers reportedly noticed a suspicious vehicle in the area of 85 Street and 111 Avenue.

The vehicle — a 2007 Ford Explorer — was parked in a grass field with both front doors open, and a man and a woman were looking through it.

The officers began to investigate the matter and were able to find large stacks of cash and various drug-related items visible inside the vehicle.

Following this, both the man and the woman were taken into custody, and the officers conducted a further search of the Explorer.

During the search, police found and seized 523 g of methamphetamine, 27 g of fentanyl, contraband cigarettes, a counterfeit firearm license, two sawed-off shotguns, ammunition, scales, knives, and a collapsible baton.

“Our officers’ vigilance during proactive enforcement kept dangerous drugs and weapons off our streets,” said Acting Staff Sgt. Curtis Maron of EPS Crime Suppression Branch in a statement. “Criminals don’t get to hide in the shadows when our officers are on the job.”

Since, 39-year-old Jonathan Van Der Haak and Jennifer La Fleche have been charged with a combined 30 charges, including knowingly possessing an unauthorized firearm.
