Traffic came to a stop Thursday afternoon after the Whitemud overpass at Anthony Henday drive was once again struck by a vehicle loaded with an excavator. The incident happened on the east side of Edmonton.
Strathcona County took to social media alerting commuters of traffic disruptions on highway 216 at the Whitemud overpass.
The vehicle was traveling northbound on the Anthony Henday Drive when it struck the overpass, causing unknown but visible damage.
RCMO on Thursday evening said that the the right lane northbound on the Anthony Henday is not passable and the Sherwood Park Freeway is currently unaffected.
Officials say delays can be expected if travelling northbound on Anthony Henday Drive.

No injuries have been reported.
The incident comes just over two years after a nearly similar scenario shut down the busy highway.
In June 2023, a semi hauling an excavator slammed into the underside of the overpass causing extensive damage. Repairing the 2023 damage cost $2.3 million and work wasn’t complete until this year.
