Cupcakes sold at northern Alberta school bake sale were not laced with cannabis: police

The possibility that a batch of frosted cupcakes at a northern Alberta school’s bake sale had been laced with cannabis turned out to be untrue, police are saying.

RCMP says it investigated the allegations of food tampering at an April 17 bake sale at the Athabasca Delta Community School in Fort Chipewyan.

“It had been suggested that someone may have laced a batch of frosted cupcakes with drugs, specifically cannabis,” RCMP said in a news release Tuesday.

School staff removed all the suspected tampered food “as a safety precaution” and turned it over to RCMP. No children or staff were harmed because of the cupcakes, police add.

The cupcakes were sent to the Health Canada Cannabis Laboratory for testing. Mounties were advised the tests were completed Saturday.

“The cupcakes were found to contain no substances related to cannabis,” police said.

Fort Chipewyan is about 300 kilometres north of Fort McMurray.
