Edmonton’s Fringe Festival still recovering from financial loss during the pandemic

As the Edmonton International Fringe Festival gets ready for later this month, festival organizers say they are still recovering from the $3 million loss of canceling the fringe during the COVID-19 pandemic.

This comes despite a massive fundraising push last year.

“Much of the arts industry has not recovered. It will take us a while until we are back on stable footing, but we are here for the long haul and that is because our community continues to show up, continue to light up the stage and allow our artists to tell meaningful stories,“ said Megan Dart, the executive director of Edmonton Fringe Theatre.

The festival is launching a new round of fundraising, looking for Edmontonians willing to donate monthly.

The 44th annual Fringe Festival kicks off on August 14th in Old Strathcona.
