Edmonton police say a 60-year-old man is dead following a vehicle-pedestrian collision Friday afternoon.
EPS says officers responded to 50 Street near 40 Avenue around 3:30 p.m. on Aug. 1, after receiving a report that a man had been hit by a vehicle.
It is believed that the man was walking on the curb parallel to the southbound lanes of 50 Street. During this time, a Toyota Tundra that was being driven by a 39-year-old man was heading south in the curb lane.
“It was reported to police that the pedestrian suddenly stepped into the southbound lane and was struck by the Toyota,” said police in a statement.
Officers and paramedics attempted lifesaving measures, before the man was taken to hospital where he later died from his injuries.
The driver of the Toyota was not injured and remained at the scene. Police do not believe that speed or alcohol were a factor in the collision.
