Correction: A previous version of this article indicated the collision happened on 82 Avenue (Whyte). It actually happened on 82 Street in north Edmonton.
Edmonton police say the death of a motorcyclist on Wednesday evening is the 21st fatal collision of the year. It’s also the seventh fatal crash involving a motorcycle.
The Edmonton Police Service says it happened around 5:50 p.m. at 82 Street and 167 Avenue.
Police were told a 40-year-old driver of a sedan was stopped at a green light and waiting to turn left.
At the same time, a 25-year-old man on a motorcycle, riding south on 82 Street, reportedly struck the front passenger side wheel of the car, and he was thrown from the bike.
Witnesses attempted CPR on the motorcyclist before first responders arrived. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the car was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The EPS’ major collision investigation section is probing the crash. Investigators believe speed was a factor.

“This is the 21st life lost on our roads this year. Behind every number is a family changed forever,” said Acting Staff Sgt. Kam Patel from MCIS. “These collisions don’t just impact families, they leave a mark on those who respond to them.
“We want to thank the witnesses who stepped in to perform CPR, and the first responders who did everything they could on the scene.”
