Bricks thrown at vehicles: Edmonton police seek complainants, witnesses after teens charged

Edmonton police are looking for additional complainants and witnesses after two youth were charged in connection with bricks and rocks being thrown into downtown traffic last week.

The Edmonton Police Service says individuals were throwing the objects at vehicles from a pedestrian bridge at Grierson Hill and the 100 Street Funicular on Friday afternoon — sometime between 3-4 p.m.

Police say a 41-year-old man whose windshield was smashed stopped his vehicle, got out and detained two teens until police arrived.

A 14-year-old boy and a 13-year-old girl were arrested and charged with assault with a weapon and mischief.

“The youths were charged given the extremely dangerous nature of throwing bricks and rocks at passing vehicles,” said Acting Staff Sgt. Bryan Langevin of EPS’s downtown branch.

“We believe there may be witnesses or other vehicles that passed through the area that were also hit. If that’s the case, please come forward and let us know.”

Police are asking anyone with information to call 780-423-4567 or anonymously at Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
