Two face 17 charges after drugs, firearms seized in Grande Prairie RCMP drug bust

Two Grande Prairie residents now face 17 charges after Mounties seized a kilogram of drugs and over a dozen firearms in a mid-July drug bust.

It happened on July 17, with the help of the city’s crime reduction unit, in Grande Prairie’s Scenic Ridge neighbourhood.

Police seized 900 grams of suspected cocaine, 100 grams of suspected mushrooms, drug trafficking materials, and 16,000 contraband cigarettes.

Over a dozen firearms–including a couple of loaded, prohibited ones–and over 15,000 rounds of ammo were also seized.

Two Grande Prairie residents, 50-year-old Michael Lutgen and 36-year-old Alexandra Lutgen, now face 17 offences that include possession of stolen property, possession of a firearm, trafficking in a controlled substance, and fraud.

RCMP Constable Satbir Sall says, “The combination of drugs and firearms is a bad mix for any community, and we are thankful that as a result of this investigation, those drugs and firearms are no longer on the streets of Grande Prairie.”

The pair have been released on conditions and are expected to appear in Grande Prairie court on July 28.
