Three people have been arrested after they were caught trying to sell jewelry stolen from a Calgary business, Strathcona RCMP say.
Mounties say they received calls to a Sherwood Park jewelry business on July 9, where three people were trying to sell precious metals and collectibles.
A “sharp-eyed” staff member noticed the jewelry from an industry bulletin that alleged they were stolen from a Calgary business three days earlier.
This led police to arrest the trio, along with recovering a large number of stolen articles.
Those three–all from Calgary–are 36-year-old Hayley Markowski, 44-year-old Shayne Righthand, and 41-year-old Reda Sabbah. Police are placing charges of trafficking property obtained by offence, and possession of property obtained by offence.
Meanwhile, after being taken before a judge, they have been released with conditions. The three are expected to be in court on Aug. 13.
Police ask anyone with information about gold scams or stolen jewelry to contact their local police or Strathcona County RCMP at 780-467-7741, or anonymously by contacting Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
