Province making final push for proposals to maintain, repurpose former Royal Alberta Museum

The Alberta government is taking one final opportunity to look into proposals to maintain or repurpose the former Royal Alberta Museum.

According to the province, Alberta Infrastructure has looked at several options for the site through an online survey.

Additionally, it has also spoken to First Nations, community members and other organizations.

“Albertans have a very strong connection to the former Royal Alberta Museum in Glenora. We have heard your suggestions, your feedback and your ideas. We’re creating this opportunity to ensure that we explore all avenues for repurposing the site,” said Martin Long, Minister of Infrastructure.

Advocates have been pushing to save the site of the old Royal Alberta Museum for months after the province announced the plan to demolish the historic building last August.

Many point to the historical significance the building has, which includes being opened during part of Canada’s Centennial celebrations and hosting Queen Elizabeth II to mark Alberta’s 100th anniversary of joining Confederation.

Anyone who wants to propose a plan to try and save or restore the site can do so on the Government of Alberta website until September 26, 2025.
